One way to eat local - find the vacant homes and grab the fruit/veggies that were planted.
While it might be illegal - or gray - the issue that was ignored is that letting the fruit rot can bring in vermin. It’s a safer, smarter way to keep the ecosystem going.
And sorta fun. I don’t think there are any foreclosed home fruit trees in my area, though.
